Drug and Alcohol Counseling

Ax Consultants provide confidential drug and alcohol counselling, support, and education to people experiencing difficulties with alcohol or other drug use and to those people who may be affected by someone else’s substance abuse (ie parents, children, siblings and partners)

What is our Philosophy?

Ax Consultants are a team of specialist clinicians trained in Psychology with a minimum of 5 years experience in the Drug and Alcohol sector. All clinical practice is informed by the latest evidence based practice, with interventions stemming from the underpinning philosophies of harm minimization (which simply means to reduce the potential harms from any substance use) and a mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral approach.

All sessions have an individually tailored client-centred approach, whereby clients set their own goals which the client and counselor both work on together. These may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Cutting down or quitting alcohol or other drug use
  • Having already cut down or quit, the focus moves to preventing lapses back into higher levels of use
  • Exploring concerns and strategies to cope with the impact of another person's alcohol or other drug use
  • Wanting up-to-date information on the effects and potential impact of alcohol or other drug use
  • Wanting information on safer use and other harm minimisation strategies
